Hameas

Hameas is the protagonist of this story, timid and unsure of himself and his role in the world at large. After discovering a magic gauntlet, he finds himself thrust into a story much bigger than he ever wanted or expected for himself.

2024:

With my latest work on Hameas I wanted to emphasize the importance of shape language. Not only did I want to contrast Hameas’s size with the gauntlet but his shape as well. I used almost exclusively round shapes with Hameas, communicating innocence, friendliness, and a softness that contradicted the large boxy gauntlet. The goal was to indicate that Hameas was at odds with his new found role as a hero. I also used some basic tests to try to make Hameas’s character design as sleek and straightforward as possible by showing what it looks like with just values, colors, and silhouette.

2022:

With this earlier iteration of Hameas my goal was to create a more distinctive and unique look from the previous versions, but I ultimately decided that there was too much going on in the design and it needed to be simplified if it was going to be viable and appealing in an animated format.

2021:

With these versions of Hameas I wanted to find a distinct color pallet. Ultimately, I would decide the colors were too garish and would change them to something more muted. I also started to make Hameas have a more distinct shape. These designs would both be short lived but necessary to finding my latest design.

2020:

This piece is the first time I ever drew digitally and first time I drew Hameas as the main character. I have changed virtually everything about this initial design except the attitude of Hameas, which is still uncertain and timid. His color pallet, silhouette, and use of shapes in general would change drastically to better communicate his character.
